Neu Folk Revival at Lequivive

Our first full day in California was spent getting our bearings. We rode the MUNI and BART and found it pretty easy to get around. First stop, the haul to Oakland for the Neu Folk Revival show at Lequivive Gallery.

On our way, we wandered to a street gathering where we saw more art at a new spot called Naming Gallery. We met some rad people who swear they knew Jess and I from somewhere else. After a long talk about past places and faces, We could never figure it out, but there was some good music playing, so we just hung out with them before the show. Also, a sweet interactive music performance by Zach Huston was enjoyed by all.

Then we walked over to Lequivive Gallery where we hung out and checked out the early end of Neu Folk Revival’s opening night. We met Rich Jacobs, a great inspiration of mine and Max Kauffman, who curated the show and also an amazing artist. Thanks to Max and Mike at Lequivive for all the hard work on this show. It was really great.

A view of the wall and the amount of artwork.

Works from Other, Ryan Bubnis, Justin Lovato and some others.

My work along with Robert Hardgraves, Jaime Molina, Chris Silva and some others. WHAT!?? So cool.

And more from Rich Jacobs, John Casey, Matt Leines, Mildred and so, many, more.

Bloggy Bloggins

Been really needing to do a good old nonsensical post for a bit, so here goes. I’ve been really busy the beginning of this year. It might not seem like it because I haven’t been updating after each project, but there’s a bundle of stuff in the works.

Been dreaming of this baby for a bit. Love the tank colors against the raw metal.

I’m posting on Doodlers Anonymous for the month of May. Get over there and read some entries. I’ll be highlighting other doodlers in town and around my circle of rad creative people.

Also, Bearded Lady printed up a couple Beardos for an upcoming project: BYOBeard. There will be some TV action on PBS of the printing and me babbling about the artwork. I think I had toothpaste on the side of my mouth during the filming, so I may or may not tell you about it when it comes out.

Things in motion

I also got the chance to check out the Misprint magazine at their launch party. It was a bunch of fun. Here is the ad that Yellow Jacket ran and I designed and produced and helped concept. Turned out real nice.

And my contribution to the changing face of Misprint. Good luck with the Misfits cover band ya’ll.

On the update

Been a pretty hectic month, but keeping on with the making and doing. Making connections again and starting new projects makes the hectic worthwhile.

Got to chill with Mr. Rich Cali at Common House a few weeks back. We spent the afternoon making some prints and drawing. Read about what has been happening over at CH.

Did some work on a commission that Jess and I are working on for good friends Nick and Steph which will be wrapping up in the next couple weeks. I’ll do a post once it’s hanging up.

Dug up some of my old comics to take a look at them again. Check out these two rad specimens.

Until next time…

Just an old update

Other than working, I’ve gotten to get out and hang with my buds. This past weekend we went out to Johnson’s Backyard Garden for a potluck, afternoon-on-a-blanket session. It was fun. Here are some pictures.

I’ll try my best to keep the news and updates coming, but I won’t promise anything. Take care!

Sketchbook section

Most of the work I do is in the form of sketches and doodles. To me, sketching is the most fun. I can open up my head and allow the pen to do the work. That is why I am starting to document the past few years of sketch books. It is kind of private thing, these sketchbooks, but I’m ready to open them up and allow them to serve as a basis for the work that I do, since this is where the ideas begin.

I simplified a few things on the site. Felt there were some redundant pages.

Here is what was on the old news page for historical purposes.

Good Press is holding their first of a long line of shows in Glasgow. Here’s wishing them great luck!

Designers Journal did a little feature on my work. THANKS DJ!

Older

I turned 30 this last weekend and had some friends and family really treat me to a good time. Thank you to everyone for all the gifts and fun times. I’ve been behind on making art lately, but I’ve got a few updates over on the Flickr page. Go over there and look at some of the new works. Other than that:

Crummy House is working on a new book that should be out this next week.
